Lisbon and the surrounding regions are pushing to be a more sustainable city, and have made a considerable effort in the public transport domain. Link Consulting was selected to build a core platform to manage the Lisbon Metropolitan area’s transport operations in, using cloud-first principles and distributed architectures.

The core platform was created using microservices and an events-first approach to promote true decoupling, and is ingesting and processing tens of millions of events per day. In this session, we’ll walk you through the challenges that this initiative faced, from changing the mindset to an event-driven one, to making the architecture “infinitely-scalable” and deriving passenger-travelling patterns using AI. We’ll also explain how the solution leverages both Solace and Kafka to address real-life scenarios, why you frequently need both, and how Solace helped overcome them with a polyglot approach.
